American R&B and hip hop star Akon is in Lagos.
The singer paid a courtesy visit to former governor of Lagos state and APC chieftain, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in Lagos. The multi-award winning singer arrived Lagos on Thursday night in company of Guinean Ambassador to Nigeria Usman Mohammed Yara.
The singer is in Lagos to garner support for his 'Akon Lighting Africa' project that is earmarked to provide electricity for 600 million Africans in the near future. Akon is hoping the scheme will also create jobs since 70 percent of the continent’s population is under the age of 35.

According to reports, the project has received a credit line of up to $1 billion from Chinese construction company, Jiangsu International. Work is expected to begin in the most low-resource, remote areas soon.
